] Clariant, a specialized and innovative special chemical company, has signed a sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol technology license agreement with China Green Energy Company Anhui Guozhen Group and multinational engineering company Kangtais Chemical Engineering Company.
Anhui Guozheng Group and Kangtaisi have agreed to set up a joint venture to build a commercial plant that uses agricultural waste to produce cellulosic ethanol. Within this framework, Clariant has granted the joint venture a license to use its sunliquid® cellulosic ethanol technology.
The joint venture company will use the existing land of Anhui Guoyu Group and the surrounding existing infrastructure to carry out project construction and factory operations in a green park in East China's Jianghuai region, Fuyang City, Anhui Province.
The annual production capacity of the plant is planned to be 50,000 tons of cellulose ethanol, and it is optional to double the production capacity in the second phase (50,000 tons per phase), becoming one of the current large-scale cellulose ethanol projects in China.
Detailed project evaluation and engineering design preparations are progressing smoothly. The project will start after an agreement has been reached with the government on the relevant contract.
"China's goal is to achieve a bioethanol content of 10% in national transportation fuels in the next few years. This policy stimulates demand for advanced biofuels and provides considerable growth potential for our sunliquid® technology. Therefore, with The signing of a sunliquid® license agreement between two well-known companies in China is an important strategic milestone to seize development opportunities, "said Hans Bohnen, global operations officer at Clariant.
For the Anhui region, this means that it has received remarkable green and sustainable technology investment projects. Agriculture is a characteristic industry in the region, which guarantees that cellulosic ethanol plants have abundant raw materials. With locally sourced raw materials, namely wheat straw and corn straw, greenhouse gas reductions will be achieved, and additional business opportunities along the entire value and supply chain will increase.
According to the national energy strategic plan, the cellulosic ethanol produced by the new project will be mixed with gasoline in the Chinese fuel market. Compared to gasoline, cellulosic ethanol produced with sunliquid® reduces greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 95%.
